    I’m using these glass weights from a kit I bought online. The problem is that the weight doesn’t have any gripping point so that I can lift it straight up. When I removed the weight recently to check the ferment taste, some of the veggies surfaced. I removed them and ate a few. Could I have left those in the brine and just returned the glass weight?


    I’ve had that same difficulty with some glass fermentation weights. I’ve since switched to primarily using these fermentation weights as they have a nice gripping shape to them.

    You’d have probably been fine with leaving the surfaced veggies, assuming you were using an airlock, but seeking to ensure that all veggies remain submerged under the brine is the most prudent thing to do.
